Referring to the highest daily coronavirus death rate of 1,012 in the country on Sunday, Alagiri said that everyone was shocked by India becoming the country with highest positivity rate in the world in August. Pointing to the spurt in casualty rate in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, the TNCC chief said that the Medical Council of India should study the spurt in cases where coronavirus cases rose from one lakh in May to 22 lakhs in August.
Claiming that the 25 medical college hospitals in the state only have 28,466 beds, including 1,775 ventilators, the TNCC chief compared the testing statistics of the country, which conducts 17,805 tests people per million, with US and Russia, which do 1.8 lakh and 2.05 lakh tests respectively.
He said, that the Centre and state have completely failed in increasing awareness among people.
Suggesting that an alternate plan and approach was an immediate necessity to face the coronavirus threat, TNCC chief Alagiri advised the governments to engage NGOs and selfless people to raise awareness among the people on the need for testing and early intervention. This would boost the confidence level of the people in the country, he added.
