After the #hindiimpostion tag, made viral after DMK MP Kanimozhi tweeted on Sunday that a CISF personnel at Chennai airport asked her if she was Indian if she did not know hindi, sources from the Force on Tuesday said that the personnel who interacted with the MP was from Telangana and was not a north Indian.
The CISF already assessed the CCTV footage from the airport and zeroed in on the constable who seems to have interacted with the MP.
The woman constable who allegedly asked the question hails from Telangana and she speaks Telugu and Hindi. She is not very fluent in English, though the CISF usually deploys people with a working knowledge of the local language of the place they are posted in or English, so they can interact easily with members of the public. “Though it may not be always possible to deploy people with 100% local language proficiency, the CISF does try to deploy at least 40% of them who know the lingo,” an airport source said, adding, action may be taken against the personnel once enquiry is over.
