Chennai reports less than 1,000 COVID cases for sixth successive day

A total of 5,633 Covid-19 recovered patients were discharged from various hospitals in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday while 5,871 persons tested positive for the virus over the past 24 hours, said the State Health Department.

According to the state health ministry, as many as 2,56,313 persons have recovered from COVID-19, which is a 81.4 percent recovery rate as on Wednesday evening. Meanwhile, more than 3.14 (3,14,520) lakh cases were reported throughout the state.

On the other hand, only 52,929 persons are under treatment in the state, which is around 16.8 per cent

The latest reports said that 119 people died in Tamil Nadu since Tuesday night. As per the data, 5,278 persons had died due to the virus, which is 1.67 per cent mortality rate.

For the sixth successive day, Chennai on Wednesday reported less than 1,000 COVID-19 cases with 993 persons being tested positive with 20 deaths.

As on date, 1,12,059 persons were tested positive for the COVID-19 in the city and 98,736 were discharged, while 10,955 people are still undergoing treatment. A total of 2,370 persons died with a mortality rate of 0.7 per cent.

Thiruvallur recorded the second highest number of cases after Chennai with 407 new infections while Cuddalore and Kanchipuram reported over 300 cases.

Tamil Nadu has tested 34,32,025 samples and 33,10,036 people so far, according to the media bulletin issued by the Directorate of Public Health.

The number of Covid-19 cases between the age of 0-12 has risen to 15,378 in the state.
