Describing the reopening of liquor shops as ‘inhuman’ act, Stalin said the reopening of liquor outlets in Chennai, despite knowing that they had contributed to spread of the virus in other districts, would amount to committing mistake after mistake and lead to further virus spread in the state capital.
Remarking that it was inhuman to mull over revenue generation, unmindful of the harm it does to the people, Stalin, who is also the leader of Opposition, said the reopening of Tasmac liquor outlets when the virus spread has not reduced was unnecessary during the lockdown. “Do not increase the production (spread) of virus by reopening the shops,” Stalin said, urging the government to reconsider the decision to reopen liquor shops even as arrangements were being made for retail sale of liquor in Chennai region after over four months.
AMMK leader TTV Dhinakaran and Makkal Needhi Maiam of actor Kamal Haasan also condemned the government for allowing the Tasmac outlets in Chennai.
Meanwhile, in another messaged posted on his official Facebook page, Stalin wished singer SP Balasubramaniam a speedy recovery from COVID-19.
