Fresh cases in Chennai climb again, slight dip in daily toll
The number of fresh COVID-19 cases are once again on the rise in Chennai with the city accounting for 1,282 of the 5,995 cases reported across TN on Friday. The State tally stands at 3,67,430.

There are 12,708 active cases in Chennai currently, which also includes the number of patients under home isolation, followed by Tiruvallur district which has 3,923 active cases and Coimbatore with 3,066 active cases. However, the daily toll dipped slightly as 101 new deaths were reported from across the State. Of the total, 23 were reported in Chennai, while six were recorded in Salem and four deaths each were reported in Cuddalore, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur and Vellore.
On Friday, 36 deaths were reported in private hospitals and 65 from government hospitals and 93 people had several underlying comorbidities, while eight did not have any health issues. So far, 6,340 deaths have been reported in Tamil Nadu. A total of 5,764 more people were discharged from several hospitals across the State, taking the total number of recoveries to 3,07,677. As on Friday, there were 53,413 active cases in TN. As many as 74,344 samples were tested across the State in the past 24 hours, taking the cumulative total to 40,62,943.
Erode Collector tests +ve:
Erode District Collector Kathiravan has tested positive for COVID-19. According to health officials, the Collector fell sick on Friday morning and took a coronavirus test which indicated he was infected. Following this, he self-quarantined in his residential quarters. His family members, too, took the test and are awaiting the results. The Collector had participated in a function and it is said he might have contracted the infection then.
