No fresh Covid-19 death in Puducherry, 149 fresh cases take

The union territory of Puducherry recorded no fresh COVID-19 death for a third time this week while 149 new cases were reported, a top Health department official said on Friday.

Puducherry had on October 26 and 27 reported no coronavirus related fatalities after having done so on October 18 for the first time this month.

The 149 fresh infections in the last 24 hours ending 10 AM today took the overall tally to 34,908 after the transfer of two cases to Tamil Nadu, Director of Health and Family Welfare S Mohan Kumar said in a release.

As many as 128 patients were discharged from hospitals during the last 24 hours, he added.

The total number of active cases stood at 3,739 while 30,577 patients had recovered and were discharged so far, Mohan Kumar said.

He said the fatalities remained at 592 as no fresh death was reported.

The Health department Director said that the fatality and recovery rates were 1.70 per cent and 87.59 per cent respectively.

He said that of the 3.05 lakh samples tested so far 2.66 lakh samples were found to be negative and the result of the examination of the remaining samples was awaited.

The Puducherry region accounted for 97 of the 149 fresh cases followed by Karaikal (27), Mahe (12) and Yanam (13), Mohan Kumar said.
