Father-son murders trial from Nov 11: CBI in HC
The CBI, which is probing into the alleged custodial deaths of Jayaraj and his son Bennix, who were traders in Sathankulam, Thoothukudi district, said on Tuesday before the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court that the lower court in Madurai is scheduled to begin trial in this case on November 11.

The counsel on behalf of the CBI said this after raising strong objections to bail pleas of the jailed Sub Inspector Raghu Ganesh and Head constable Murugan, which came up for hearing before Justice GK Ilanthiraiyan. The petitioners’ counsel said all documents and forensic reports pertaining to the probe had been submitted in the case. Hence, the counsel sought bail for the then SI and head constable citing that they would abide by all conditions and would not abscond.
Meanwhile, the CBI counsel raised objections to any grant of bail citing that these two cops were crucial elements in the torture that went too far and ultimately claimed the lives of Jayaraj and Bennix.
If they were granted bail, it would affect the probe and hence they objected to the bail pleas. Moreover, the statement of woman constable Revathi, who’s attached to Sathankulam station, also stated these two cops’ pivotal role in the torture, the counsel said.
The Judge dismissed the bail pleas.
