No more mega vaccination drive in TN

CHENNAI: The state health department will no more organise mega vaccination drive across the State on Saturday. The state health department officials said that the target of 100 percent vaccination coverage has been obtained in several districts and thus, mega vaccination drive is not necessary.

The Directorate of Public Health and Preventive Medicine recently withdrew the notification that mandated vaccination in public places and eligible persons can get vaccinated on a voluntary basis. So far, about 4 crore vaccine doses have been administered through 27 mega vaccination drives in Tamil Nadu. As many as 10.23 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered across the State so far.

As many as 7.60 lakh doses of precautionary booster dose of vaccines have been administered in the State. Meanwhile, more than one crore doses of vaccines are yet to be administered to those awaiting second dose of the vaccines.

The senior officials from the Directorate of Public Health and Preventive Medicine said that the Deputy Director of Health Services have been instructed that special vaccination camps will be organised in the districts showing a low vaccination coverage. Regarding the administration of precautionary booster dose at private vaccination sites for those aged 18 years and above, the official said that the Union Health Ministry is expected to issue guidelines to all the States regarding the same on Saturday.
