Heavy rainfall warning for south Tamil Nadu for next two days: RMC

On April 15 and 16, Western Ghats districts of Tamil Nadu are expected to get light to moderate rains due to the circulation prevailing in the southern region.

CHENNAI: The Regional Meteorological Center (RMC) Chennai issued heavy rainfall warning for southern districts for the next two days due to atmospheric circulation over South Tamil Nadu.

"Due to atmospheric circulation prevailing over South Tamil Nadu, heavy rains along with thunderstorm activity is likely to occur over Kanniyakumari, Tirunelveli, Nilgiris, Tirupur, Coimbatore and isolated places in southern districts of TN for the next 48 hours," said Dr S Balachandran, Deputy Director- General of Meteorology, RMC.

On April 15 and 16, Western Ghats districts of Tamil Nadu are expected to get light to moderate rains due to the circulation prevailing in the southern region.

As far as Chennai is concerned, the sky condition to be partly cloudy, and light rains to occur at some areas for the next two days. The official said that even the maximum temperature is likely to come down.

"Isolated places over south Tamil Nadu to see heavy to very rains under the influence of upper air circulation. A few districts - Kanniyakumari, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi and Virudhunagar to get rains during afternoon and evening hours for the next two days," said a weather blogger.

According to RMC, Thoothukudi, and Theni received the highest amount of rainfall with 9 cm each, Ramanathapuram 7 cm, Tirunelveli 6 cm, Madurai and Virudhunagar recorded 4 cm of rainfall each, Coimbatore, Pudukottai, Sivaganga, Tirupur 3 cm each.
