Kerala-bound passengers hit due to less buses
Passengers bound to Kerala were stranded at Ukkadam bus terminus due to lack of adequate bus services on Thursday.
Coimbatore: A large number of people hailing from Kerala turned up at the bus stand to leave for their hometowns to celebrate ‘Vishu’ on Friday. Both the Kerala State Transport Corporation and Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation operate buses to the neighbouring state from Ukkadam bus terminus.
However, the buses were inadequate to accommodate the huge crowd, which thronged the bus terminus since early morning. The queue grew in length with the passing of time and several of them claimed to be waiting for more than an hour to board a bus.
“Usually, Kerala-bound crowd would be less at the Ukkadam bus terminus. But, during festival days, it becomes chaotic. On such days, more buses should be operated for the convenience of passengers,” said S Ryan, who was waiting with his family at the bus terminus.
However, the crowd was normal in buses bound to other districts across the state.
