Intruders decamp with jewellery from ex-panchayat chief’s house

On Saturday morning when they returned home found the backside door was broken and the intruders had looted the 125 sovereign gold which was kept inside the locker.

CHENNAI: Unidentified intruders decamped with 125 sovereigns of gold ornaments from the house of a former village panchayat president in Kancheepuram on Saturday. Ganapathi (52), a former panchayat president of Kallur village in Uthiramerur was a resident of Periyanatham village. On Friday Ganapathi along with his family went to Rameshwaram to the temple. On Saturday morning when they returned home found the backside door was broken and the intruders had looted the 125 sovereign gold which was kept inside the locker. Further, they had also taken the 4 kg silver items, cash Rs 20 lakhs from the house. Police said in another room were 20 sovereign gold ornaments inside the locker but they were not touched by the intruders. The Magaral police have registered a case and a search is on to nab the intruders with the help of CCTV in the locality.
