TIRUVANNAMALAI: Thanipadi police registered a case and arrested two brothers, who hacked their father to death for his refusal to allow one of them to remarry, on Thursday.
Police said that Sadasivam (58) of Methakkal village near Thanipadi in Thandarampattu taluk in Tiruvannamalai district, an agricultural labourer, had two sons Manikandan (28) and Sakthivel (24), both of them were married. However, Sakthivel was estranged from his wife who left him soon after the marriage in 2019 due to differences of opinion. Hence, Sakthivel would frequently ask his father to get him married again to which his father refused. Sakthivel also wanted his father to bequeath to him the one acre land Sadasivam had which was also refused. This lead to frequent quarrels between father and son.
During such a quarrel on Thursday, Sakthivel aided by brother Manikandan attacked their father with sickles and spades resulting in his death on the spot.
Police on information arrested both Manikandan and Sakthivel.
