Airtel 4G Advanced is now available to customers in Chennai, Madurai, Hosur, Vellore, Pondicherry, Trichy, Coimbatore, Salem and Tiruppur. Customers with mobile devices that support 4G Advanced will be able to enjoy mobile data speeds of up to 135 Mbps. Airtel launched 4G services in Tamil Nadu using the 1800 MHz spectrum and now is combing that with the new 2300 MHz spectrum to offer faster speeds. Meanwhile, Vodafone India customers can upgrade to 4G SIMs at their convenience at any Vodafone store. You need to visit the store with the handset with the current non-4G SIM card and a 4G compatible handset and collect your Vodafone SuperNet 4G SIM. To activate the 4G SIM card, use your existing Vodafone number to SMS ‘SIMEX <your 20 digit new 4G SIM card number>’ to 55199. You will receive a response SMS from 55199 with partial SIM number entered. Send the last 6 digits of the new SIM number to 55199 and you will receive a success SMS, post which your 4G ready SIM will be activated within 5-10 minutes. 4G services are expected to go live in January 2017.
