How do I keep acidity problems at bay? Prerna Mani, Koyambedu
While some tend to have temporary gastric problems, some others suffer from ulcers. If you are an alcoholic or a smoker, you must avoid both, especially excessive drinking, as they tend to aggravate the problem. Avoid caffeinated, decaffeinated, and carbonated drinks; and fruit juices which contain citric acid. Avoid high-fat foods and anything fried as they too tend to aggravate the problem. What you consume can make a difference in the health of your digestive system. For instance, some forms of gastritis are caused by drinking alcohol too often or too much at one time. Avoiding some foods and beverages and eating others can help manage the condition. — Udaya Z, Gastroenterologist
Will consuming butter make me fat? Shreya Das, Aminjikarai
Eating foods that are packed with the wrong kinds of fat will make you fat. Trans fats found in pie crusts and other baked goods, and saturated fats found in processed and grain-fed meats, add hefty calories. But healthy fats will do the opposite. While butter contains a lot of healthy saturated fat, it was never proven to cause any harm. It is rich in fat soluble vitamins. It lowers heart attack risk as compared to margarine and is associated with a lower risk of obesity. — Saranya Mohan, Nutritionist
