Fitness Mantra: Maari 2 actor Tovino reveals his secret to a great physique

We all like to draw inspiration from our favourite film stars for our workout routines but it’s not as easy or hunky-dory as it seems. These actors who transform themselves every few months for different roles endure a lot of physical and mental strain and exhaustion.

One such individual who wowed the Malayalam industry with his ability to morph into any body type for a character, is Tovino Thomas. The actor shot to fame within a short period of time, especially because of his role as Perumparambil Appu in the film Ennu Ninte Moideen and today, he is a heart-throb among his female fans thanks to his physique.

It all started when the actor was signed to play the male lead in Godha — since the film talks about wrestling, he wanted to look the part. In a previous interview the actor was heard saying, “I didn’t want a six-pack or a makeover to amaze people; I wanted to look convincing for the role.” So he was put on a special diet right from the shoot schedule of the film that came out before Godha, titled Guppy.

In Mollywood, an actor works for an average of 12 hours a day so in addition to the diet, he had to work out dedicatedly every single day. “I’m actually quite a lazy person but I had to push myself to get into shape,” he said.

In between this schedule, he had to lose all the muscle he gained for a film titled Oru Mexican Apaaratha — “More than the gym or food, what really gave me the strength to push through was sleep and rest. So I would say this is the most important tool for any individual while undergoing a transformation.”

If not for his films, the Maari 2 actor thinks a natural looking, fit body with intake of natural food is the best any day because either being too muscular or too buff has its own advantages and disadvantages. We couldn’t agree more!
