Avoid lot of visitors, especially those who have fever, cough, cold. As strenuous activities may result in muscle aches and joint pains, it is best to restrict yourself to short duration activities. I have been told I snore aloud in my sleep and I might have sleep apnea. But I have heard it is more common among men. Is that true? I am 61-year-old and a little overweight.

- Revathi, resident of Pallavaram

Doctors say that an estimated 3-5 per cent of the population in Tamil Nadu is suffering from the condition and the ratio of the disorder between men and women is 1.5:1. This ratio goes to 2:1 for those in the age group between 18-45, as there is some kind of protection as an effect of hormones. But during pregnancy, women develop it as they gain weight.
