My 63-year-old mother who has been diagnosed with osteoporosis gets bruised often. Is it related to her medical condition? —Kanishka Awasthi, a resident of Perambur
The bruising becomes common as individual ages because the skin becomes thin and blood vessels become weaker that leads to an easy impact on the blood vessels and thus, bruises. Aging also affects the healing process and can lead to the development of large bruises even after minor injuries. Bruising may or may not relate to the medical condition of an individual, as it can also be due to a deficiency also. It is necessary to consult the doctor on the specific medical condition .

Can sore throat become chronic?
—S Bhanu, a resident of Pallikarnai.
A sore throat can be chronic in case of allergies, infections and pulmonary diseases can also be the cause. While common bacterial infections and tonsilitis can lead to sore throat, there can be serious issues such as throat cancer. Several habits such as smoking and breathing from the mouth can lead to a chronic sore throat.
—Dr V Ranjith, pulmonologist, Institute of Thoracic Medicine
