Their 20-minute chat that happened on Sunday was shared on Facebook Live. Dalai Lama answered questions Gaga, 30, chose from social media about how to deal with injustices in the world. He answered, “Once a tragic situation happens, not avoid — but look at more deeply, widely. Many positive, happy things are there if you look from a wider perspective. If you look real closely, it appears unbearable. But if you look widely you see other positive things there.”
As for meditating, Gaga does it, and so does Dalai Lama. However, “I am a poor practitioner of meditation. 81 years old... Progress, not much,” he said, smiling. But his analytic meditation methods seem to work, said Gaga, to which he responded, “You can judge my young-looking face. My mind is always clear.” Dalai Lama also said, “I’m one 81-year-old person with quite a lot of experience”. “You didn’t know this, but I’m much older than you,” joked Gaga.
Meanwhile, China has warned people to be aware of what it says are nefarious motives of Dalai Lama after he met with Lady Gaga. Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said on Monday that the purpose of Dalai Lama’s travels is to “promote his proposal for Tibetan independence.” Beijing regularly vilifies the Tibetans’ spiritual leader as a political figure who advocates Tibetan independence from China.
