A US court in Virginia on Monday postponed the sentencing of Donald Trump's former campaign chairman Paul Manafort on band and fraud charges that was previously set for February 8.
US District Court Judge TS Ellis III in a one-page order said he was postponing Manafort's sentencing on charges of bank and tax fraud until the longtime GOP operative resolves a separate dispute with Robert Mueller's prosecutors over charges he lied during his cooperation with the special counsel and in testimony before a grand jury, as reported by politico.com.
Special Counsel Robert Mueller is investigating US allegations of Russian interference in the 2016 US election and whether Trump campaign members coordinated with Moscow officials, while the Kremlin denies any intrusive interference in election and Trump denies any collusion with Russia.
The dispute over whether he was untruthful during his cooperation is likely to be a factor in how much jail time Manafort receives.
US District Judge Amy Berman Jackson currently scheduled to sentence Manafort on March 5.
