Citizen Connect: Motorists face risk of accidents as dust piles up on Arcot Road
Motorists on Arcot Road in Kodambakkam are in constant threat of accidents due to uncleaned dust on the major arterial road.
Chennai
“I have been using the road for years. The stretch between Trust Puram signal and Kodambakkam railway bridge has become dangerous to ride,” M Mohan, a bike rider said.
Mohan pointed out at the uncleaned dust on the left side of the road. “I have to ride cautiously amidst the soil and dust accumulated on the roadside so as to avoid skidding,” he added.
When DT Next visited the spot, a huge quantity of loose soil was found on the roadside where some cars were parked. The motorists were avoiding the usage of the lane on the left- hand side in fear of accidents.
“During rainy days, loosened soil makes it way to the road. However, when the road gets dried up, it affects the sight of motorists,” S Kumar, another motorist said.
Kumar also demanded the Chennai Corporation to clear the road before any untoward incident occurs. “I have seen the corporation vehicles and workers cleaning the roads and removing dust accumulated.
The Arcot Road is an important road and hundreds of riders use the road. The officials should deploy sucker vehicles and remove dust periodically,” Kumar urged.
Apart from the dust, illegal parking on the roadside also pose danger to the motorists and pedestrians. “Visitors to the commercial establishments park their vehicles on the road.
The wider stretch has been made unavailable for the use of motorists and at times, we are also made to negotiate through the parked vehicles,” a resident said.

Only a few meters after the Trust Puram signal, many cars are lined up. Motorists, especially two-wheeler riders speed up immediately once the green signal is flashed. Illegal parking and skiddy dust have become dangerous, the resident added.
When contacted a Chennai Corporation official, he said that the action will be taken to clear the dust.
