This teacher funds goodies for students from poor background
Tamil teacher, G Mani, raises funds with the help of his batchmates in Vivekananda College to deliver uniforms and other equipment to school students twice a year.
Chennai
“This year, we distributed school uniforms along with kits and term fees to 113 students from financially disadvantaged conditions.
We always provide benefits through school managements only for a reason that the beneficiaries should not feel uncomfortable. We raise funds to deliver goodies in the months of January and June,” said G Mani who works as a school teacher at a private institution in Chrompet. Mani started teaching after completing his Bachelors and Masters in Commerce. “After the completion of my Masters, I decided that I am going to be a Tamil teacher. Therefore, I studied MA Tamil and later BEd to join as a teacher. I am living my childhood dream.
Whenever I confided my ambition to my well-wishers, they advised me not to take such a decision in life. But I knew from the bottom of my heart that this is the only thing that gives me immense happiness,” he added. He wants his students to shine in the competitions as he did when he was in school. “I have received numerous medals at various competitions. My biggest achievement is receiving an award from the then Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa for winning a debate competition in Class 12,” gleamed Mani. “I never expect them to secure high marks or love Tamil subject. But they should not dislike it.”
