    DT Next Impact: Relief for residents as stinking drain cleaned at Minjur

    Swinging into action after this newspaper highlighted the risks to public health posed by open drains at Valluthikaimedu in Minjur and indiscriminate dumping of garbage into it, the officials at Tiruvallur removed the trash and cleared the storm water drain.

    This has brought a much needed relief for the residents here, who were concerned about the drain becoming a breeding spot for mosquitoes.

    According to the local public, the canal was originally built as a storm water drain, but sewage was let out into it from residences and business establishments over the years.


    This reduced it to a stinking canal with waste floating on it, filled with mosquitoes and flies. When DT Next brought it to his attention,Block Development Officer J Ravi he had assured to take prompt action, as this was an issue concerningpublic health.
