Slice Of Life: ‘State can prosper by supporting agriculture sector’
Every person has a story to share. This column puts the spotlight on the people of Chennai, faces we see but rarely interact with — giving a glimpse into their struggle.
Chennai
I was born and brought up in Ekkaduthangal. As I was growing up, I started to assist my father at his vegetable shop. I work in a logistics company and work at the shop during my free time to help my father. We hail from Tiruvannamalai. My parents came to Chennai about 30 years ago and started working here. My father has been selling vegetables and other household items for more than 25 years. We now own a house in the city and we are settled here. My father studied till Class 8, while my mother attended till Class 10.
However, I wanted to study and went to a government school in Alandur. I continued my studies and I have completed my B Com. We earn about Rs 1,000 daily but I want to own a bigger departmental store here. My mother is a housewife and sister got married recently. I like the way Chennai has developed and employment opportunities have increased for youngsters. The means of transportation have now increased and education facilities have also increased over the years. However, our State can prosper more if there is more support and encouragement given to the agriculture sector.
