U Subash Kumar (28), Wedding photographer
After my graduation, I tried my hand at many jobs. But could not earn much. So, I started wedding coverage six years ago and bought a camera then. Initially, I was working for other wedding photographers. Once I got enough contacts, I started my own studio and bought more equipment such as lights, computers and new camera by reinvesting my earnings. Till date, I never received loans to buy equipment. Even though I have invested lakhs to buy equipment, I would not get orders for six months which are considered inauspicious. During that time, I would edit photos and videos taken earlier. I would meet various types of customers, some of them are arrogant. But I cannot afford to show my resentment to the customers as we would lose business. Reputation is important in this field. Some people will treat us good and respect us. Also, this occupation needs frequent investment. I cannot sustain in this field if I fail to update myself and my equipment. I need to buy new cameras every time they are launched as the customers prefer updated equipment. I lost so much money due to this because I have to sell my old cameras at takeaway prices.
