Slice of Life: ‘Firm in my ambition to become an actor
    X
A Rasu (28), short film actor

    Chennai

I wanted to become an actor since my school days and studied visual communication to learn more about the film industry and film-making techniques. Initially, I acted in short films produced by my friends. After acting in a few of those, many short film directors gave me chances to act in their short films. We make short films mostly with our own money and all of us are seeing it as a stepping stone into the film industry. Acting in short films would not earn me enough money and, therefore, I take up jobs such as teaching dance to school students, etc. I am nearing 30 and I should land an opportunity soon to keep my spirit up. In search of film roles, I came to Chennai from my native last month and I am staying at a friend’s place now. Even though I completed college eight years ago and most of my friends have landed jobs that they don’t like, I am firm in my decision to hold on to my ambition. I meet my expenses with the help of my mother and my friends. Now, I am closer to an opportunity and I will do my best to achieve my ambition.
