SLICE OF LIFE: ‘Working part-time to save money for sister’s wedding’
Every person has a story to share. This column puts the spotlight on the people of Chennai, faces we see but rarely interact with — giving a glimpse into their struggle.
Chennai
I live with family in Villivakam. We came to the city in 2011 when I was studying in Class 6. My father was a businessman and later he started to drive an autorickshaw. I have seen my father working hard for the family from my childhood and I decided to help him. After finishing schooling, I started to work at a soup stall part-time and joined B Sc computer science at a private college. I use my savings to pay for my education.
Now, as its holiday for college, I work night shift at the godown of a private bank at Karapakkam. I need to work hard for the sake of my parents. I have an elder sister. I am saving money for her marriage, too. I want to help my father as much as possible. I want to settle all the debts of my family and then I would join a 3D animation course at a reputed institution. I believe that I can become one of the best animators in the city and hopefully that would happen in a few years. I want to take all the responsibilities off my father’s shoulders and let him rest.
