LIVING THE i LIFE : ‘With no fixed routine, I spend my time reading, cooking’
The ongoing lockdown has forced many of us to alter the way we go about our daily routine. Chennaites share tales of the changes they have made to adapt to the new ‘normal’ of living and working with limited interaction
Chennai
Until mid-May, I was studying for my master’s exams. I was just waking up, studying, and then taking classes at night. I also had papers to write. I was studying in the US and came back mid-March. I landed on March 19, on one of the last few flights before people were quarantined. After that, I took a break for a week. Now I’m working as a political consultant. A lot of my days are tracking the news. My work hours are extremely sporadic. It depends on the developments in the media. I’m an avid reader. Now I’m going through five to six books a month.
Otherwise, I’ve been playing videogames on my Nintendo Switch. I’ve also been cooking for my parents and my girlfriend. My parents now realise I’m an adult and have been treating me as an equal and have given me my space. We talk about our opinions on things over dinner. I’m very happy to be at home. I go out on to the terrace when things get too bad and think about the situation around us. Sometimes it’s lighthearted, but sometimes it gets existential and a little depressed.
