None from AIADMK in touch with actor Rajini, clarifies Jayakumar

Actor Rajinikanth, who has been talking about spiritual politics for the past three years, has again created a sense of disquiet among the ruling AIADMK and its ally BJP functionaries.

There is factional feud in all the parties and entry of Rajinikanth into politics will certainly open the floodgates for the rebels in all the parties.

“The 69-year-old star who rode to stardom due to his fiery acting style has been ducking over the idea of launching a party, but his popularity is an issue for the Dravidian parties. Though the incumbent MLAs and district secretaries are with the party, the dissent may move with the actor floating a party,” admitted a former AIADMK MLA wishing not to be named.

Whether Rajni floats his party or not, the AIADMK will complete the full five-year term and face the elections and his arrival may not dent our party badly. If the actor allies with AIADMK and BJP, it will only benefit the ruling AIADMK alliance, said CR Sridhar, an AIADMK advocate, adding that the star is taking too much time to float his own political outfit.

A section of BJP workers also feel that Rajinikanth may also attract traction from the saffron party. “For instance cinema professionals like director Kasthuri Raja, (Kasthuri Raja’s son actor Dhanush has married Rajini’s daughter), Maduvanthi daughter of YGee Mahendran is associated with BJP, but if Rajini floats a party the family members may side with the actor, who knows,” a BJP functionary in south Chennai said. But, we are hoping that the actor will ally with the BJP due to his friendship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he added.

However, AIADMK senior leader and Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar said that actor Rajinikanth will hardly have any impact on the ruling AIADMK. “The AIADMK Ministers and functionaries are loyal to the party and nobody is in touch with actor Rajinikanth who is yet to float a party,” Minister Jayakumar said responding to reporters that the AIADMK functionaries are in touch with the superstar. These are hearsays and the media should ignore, the Minister emphasised.
