    TN COVID-19: Death toll exceeds 100 for the second consecutive day, 5,063 new cases reported

    The state has recorded the highest single-day death toll exceeding hundred, for the second day. As many as 108 patients died raising the death count to 4,349.

    With sample testing done in 125 laboratories across the State, a total of 55,122 samples were tested. Of which as many as 5,063 persons tested positive for coronavirus infection in Tamil Nadu over the past 24 hours, the state health department officials said.
    In a statement issued here on Tuesday, the health department said the State recorded around 5,063 new infections were registered, taking the total tally to 2,68,285 of corona infections till date.
    The total number of Covid-19 patients who succumbed over the past 24-hours was 108 taking the death toll of the State to 4,349. This is the second consecutive day where the State records single-day death toll above 100.
    TamilNadu Health Minister, C.Vijayabhaskar, who addressed the press, said that the state has recorded 6,501 Covid-19 patients who cured and discharged from various hospitals, on Tuesday. The total number of cured persons goes up to 2,08,784, he added.
    In total, around 55,152 active cases are under treatment which includes self-isolation as well,  in TamilNadu.
    The state capital Chennai saw a slight increase in the infections chart with 1,023 persons testing positive for the virus, 1,04,027. While cases from other districts, apart from Chennai, counted up to 4,040.
    Vijaya Baskar further rubbished the rumours about 43 medicos who succumbed to COVID and urged the public not to spend such unhealthy rumours.
