3,000 in TN appear for JEE on Day 1 amid coronavirus precautions

The JEE is scheduled between September 1 and September 6 across the country with 8.58 lakh candidates having registered to appear for the exams. In Tamil Nadu, a total of 53,765 students will appear this year in 34 exam centres.

On Tuesday, 3,000 candidates in the State appeared for JEE in Mathematics and Aptitude test for admissions to B Arch and B Planning. JEE organising sources here said that in order to ensure proper social distancing inside the examination halls, the candidates were seated alternatively. Adequate arrangements were made outside the examination centres to enable candidates to maintain proper social distancing, while waiting. Sources further said that officials of the National Testing Agency, which conducts JEE and NEET, have ensured that more than 99% candidates get their first choice of centre cities in both of these examinations.

From Wednesday till Sunday, students, seeking BTech and engineering admissions in NITs, IIITs and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTI) seats, will be appearing for the exams. Candidates were also advised to visit the examination venue, a day in advance to see the arrangements, so that they do not face any problem on the day of the test.

The organisers have ensured that students do not adopt any unfair means or indulge in any unfair examination practices as the examination centres are under constant CCTV surveillance and equipped with jammers. On the request of the students, the JEE (Main) and NEET (UG), which were earlier scheduled to be held in July, were postponed to be held in the month of September 2020. Meanwhile, owing to the absence of inter-district bus services, over 50 per cent candidates could not reach the exam venue at Vellore.
