President honours city entrepreneur
Bharatiya Yuva Shakti Trust (BYST), a non-profit awarded Chennai-based Shanmugadevi Lakshmana Perumal, the Entrepreneur of the Year award. She was presented this award for generating the highest employment through her enterprise, by the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee during the First International Mentoring Summit organized by BYST.

Shanmugadevi, who hails from Coimbatore established Swasti Support Services India Pvt ltd which provides integrated facilities management services to corporates, IT Parks, hospitals, hotels, and residential complexes. Shanmugadevi expanded her team of two to over 300 professionals, comprising full-time employees and contract consultants.
Today her service offerings go beyond the basic human support services to offer integrated support, encompassing security, housekeeping, operations, facilities management, operations management, staffing and payroll, property management, pest control and more. She currently has operations in Chennai, Coimbatore and Bengaluru and plans to expand to 10 cities over the next 2-3 years.
Extending her happiness and pride for the awardee, Ms. Lakshmi VV, Founding and Managing Trustee, BYST, has said, “As an organization, BYST has always aimed to intensify its operations across the country to empower and help more and more underprivileged youth through its vision of mentorship and guidance. It is a pleasure to see our entrepreneurs doing well in their respective fields.
Shanmugadevi’s Swasti was a bootstrapped operation started with the savings of the husband & wife duo. When they started operations, they had an overdraft facility with their bankers. To expand their business and manage the credit cycle with their clients, they needed funding and mentoring and it was then that Shanmuga has approached us with her idea which is now amongst the highest employment generating enterprises.
We understand that turning hurdles into opportunities is not an easy task. However, we can achieve it through mentoring and we will continue to make efforts towards building a better India.”
Through her venture Shanmugadevi has created immense employment opportunities for unskilled and semi-skilled persons and has built capacity with skill development programs. Swasti provides its employees with growth opportunities through education, training and a satisfying work place experience. The company also employs differently abled people, without compromising on customer experience.
Swasti recruits ex-servicemen as security personnel thus providing livelihood opportunities to the needy families. Swasti alsogrants special loans and sponsorship to employees for the education of their children. In her individual capacity, too, Shanmugadevi sponsors some students for school and college education.
