Recently, shared mobility trends in India have grown tremendously as a renewed interest in urbanism and growing environmental, energy and economic concerns have intensified the need for sustainable alternatives.
Coimbatore is one of the largest markets for Zoomcar today in Tamil Nadu. The subscriber base in Coimbatore has doubled since the launch of ZAP subscription. The number of registered users in the textile town for subscription are 1,000+ with almost 50+ pre-books. The larger proportion of subscriber base comes from working-class professionals and small & medium scale business people. The largest OEM partners for subscription model with Zoomcar are Maruti, Ford, Mahindra and Tata.
Greg Moran, CEO & Co-founder, Zoomcar said, “With ZAP Subscribe, Zoomcar is introducing the first of its kind car subscription models in India. In the last several years, India has witnessed a remarkable mindset shift; and now access is more valued over ownership. ZAP Subscribe leverages this phenomenon while also infusing elements of the shared economy to provide a dramatically reduced cost to access a personal vehicle. Our primary objective of subscribe is to leverage technology and data science to reduce all elements of friction for the subscriber.”
Customers need to pay a monthly subscription fee for using the services. The user needs to register themselves online, select the vehicle of their choice and reserve it by paying a refundable security deposit. Launched in April 2013, Zoomcar reported strong unit economics in most of the cities in India with almost 12lakh trips in 35 cities with a ticket size of about Rs 4-6k on an average. Zoomcar currently has more than 30 lakh registered users PAN India with 4,000 fleet including subscribed cars. ZAP subscription offers more than 20 models covering hatchbacks, sedans and SUVs in a majority of tier 1 and tier 2 cities. The metro and non-metros contribute 80% and 20% to the entire profitable business respectively with Coimbatore being one of the most significant contributing non-metro town for Zoomcar.
