Dr Prashanth Rajagopalan, Director, MGM Healthcare, said the flagship project will be ready in two months’ time. “We have two decades of experience in the field of healthcare, and the proof is our facilities at Puducherry and Chennai. The new venture seeks to offer a technology-driven comprehensive medical facility, that focuses on addressing two pain points – service and price,” he said, noting that the funding of the project was through internal accruals with the establishment cost component of Rs 60 lakh per bed.
Elaborating on the healthcare enterprise, Rajagopalan said the team is confident of having an edge over other operators owing to operational efficiency and other key features. For instance, instead of engaging 12 nurses, MGM would use 7 nurses by deploying technology. “You have seen the uber model, which links vacant cars to waiting customers. Similarly, we will be allocating work to nursing attendants based on their availability. Also, the use of multiple equipment, Internet of Things, predictive analytics apart from having a diverse advisory board, gives us enough advantage over others. We are totally wi-fi enabled and our clinical team, with exposure to best practices of the West, put us in good stead,” he sought to point out.
The existing big healthcare players in Chennai, according to him, can be classified as legacy institutions and though they had the first mover advantage, MGM is upbeat that its offerings are completely different. Be it the use of solar-powered panels for energy conservation or the LEED platinum certification that can reduce power consumption by one-third, the start-up promises a lot.
From app-based appointments to being ushered into the hospital by professionals as a welcoming process to post discharge connectivity are the salient features that it is pitching forth to customers in keeping the continuum of care. “Our scope of care is from general medicine to burns to complex problems like multiple organ failure. There is a huge void that we are trying to fill and the new hospital of this scale right in the middle of the city, is aimed at doing that,” Rajagopalan said, highlighting the ‘first in industry innovations.’
This facility will soon be followed by another greenfield hospital in the city. Also, MGM Healthcare will be launching many related ventures, aligning with its vision of becoming a complete healthcare platform.
