Delivering her keynote address at the second edition of Global Investors Meet (GIM-II), the Defence Minister said that the International Monetary Fund had predicted the fastest economic growth for India.

“Due to PM Narendra Modi’s economic policies, the country’s economy is growing at a rapid pace and the IMF had given the same prediction that India’s economy will be the fastest in the world,” she said.

After unveiling the Aerospace and Defence Industrial Policy, 2019, Nirmala Sitharaman said that Tamil Nadu’s growth is not new and for several centuries, Tamil Nadu has been an industrial centre. Even since the rule of Cholas, the trade associations existed here, which is a testimony to the flourishing trade. The proof of trade of the Cholas was found in Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam, and Tamils have shown their entrepreneurial skills right since the ancient times.

Quoting the recently conducted ‘Defence Expo’ in Chennai, Nirmala said that this was the first time that a Defence Expo was conducted in Chennai, which was otherwise conducted only in New Delhi. Further, she welcomed Japan’s decision to operate a direct flight from Chennai to Tokyo and to diversify their investments, as they have planned to invest in the food processing industry.
