The movie on Tuesday, hit another roadblock after Madras High Court has issued an interim stay against Kolayuthir Kaalam. It is said that the title of the film has been inspired by late writer Sujatha’s novel of the same name. Balaji Kumar, director of Vidiyum Munn, had filed a petition saying that he was the first to acquire the rights of the novel Kolayuthir Kaalam from Sujatha’s wife for a sum of Rs 10 lakh. He also asked the court to stop the release of the film using the same name.

Talking to DTNext, the producer of the film, Mathiyalagan of Etcetera Entertainment said, “It is not about, who acquires the right from the author of the novel. The title belongs to us and we have it registered with the Producers’ Council. Moreover, we are appealing against Balaji’s petition today. If we get the verdict on Thursday, Kolayuthir Kaalam will hit the screens as per plan on Friday. Similar issues arose before Mersal’s release and it was awarded to Atlee as he had the title registered. Moreover, this has been the title for over two years now and I wonder why people are reacting in the very last minute.”
