Film Review 'Sindhubaadh': Chemistry between Sethupathi and Son elevate this average entertainer
Director Arun Kumar made an impressive debut with Pannaiyaarum Padminiyum, which was charming and emotional. He then went on to make an action entertainer like Sethupathi and proved that his content can cater to all sections of audience.

Now, after almost two years, the director has joined hands with Vijay Sethupathi again for a commercial entertainer, which isn’t as endearing as the duo’s previous films. However, Sindhubaadh has its own moments and manages to engage the audience in parts. The film begins with Thiru (Vijay Sethupathi) and his sidekick, Super, (Surya Vijay Sethupathi) indulging in a small-time robbery, on the streets of Tenkasi. We are introduced to them as characters who often get involved in petty crimes with no ambition in life. A few minutes later, Thiru encounters Venba (Anjali), a girl in his neighbourhood, who works as a contract labourer for a rubber factory in Malaysia. He tries to woo her with the help of Super (Surya) and manages to win her heart. Only then he realises that Venba is a contract labour in Malayasia, and she has come to Tenkasi for a vacation. Unexpectedly, Thiru ties the Thali on Venba a few minutes before her flight, giving her no time to think.
While this forms for an entertaining first half, a few minutes into the second half, makes us realise that the makers have packed all interesting elements in the first itself. Venba gets captured by Ling (Linga), a powerful gangster in Thailand, who is mainly involved in flesh trade and human trafficking. Thiru, along with his protege Super, goes in search of his wife using a fake passport. Can a small-time thief manage to trace these dreaded gangsters and rescue her? Scenes between Surya Sethupathi and Vijay Sethupathi are delightful to watch. Their natural performances help to elevate even a normal scene to another level. However, given that the film has a huge cast, Arun Kumar could have concentrated more on the film’s script and the subject he is dealing with. Yuvan Shankar Raja’s foot-tapping numbers and background score support the film big time. Anjali’s performance as an independent yet bold woman is quite impressive. Her scenes remind us of her character that she played in Jai’s Engeyum Eppothum. Overall, Sindhubaadh is an average entertainer, which could have been made better.
