Afew days ago, the makers of Maanadu announced that the Simbu was not a part of their project anymore. However, Simbu on Wednesday announced that he will be directing a film titled Magha Maanadu that will have him in the lead and be produced by his father T Rajendar under their home banner Chimbu Cine Arts. T Rajendar told DT Next, “This is a mega budget multi starrer that will feature leading artistes across the country. The movie will be made on a budget of Rs 120 crore. This script requires such a budget and will release across five languages.”

He said that the movie was planned during their vacation in Thailand last week. “Simbu had this script in his mind for quite sometime and we discussed it when we were in Bangkok. The way he has penned the script is top notch and it will be a perfect comeback for him as a director after Vallavan. He is currently working on the script and will have a huge star cast that will be finalised when Simbu returns to India.” TR said that he came forward to bankroll this project because of professional reasons. “I launched Simbu in the 80s in Uravai Kaatha Kili and Mythili Ennai Kadhali. It is the guru-sishya relationship that Simbu and I maintain when it comes to cinema. I will be taking care of the production design and ensure that it doesn’t exceed the given budget,” he added. On a concluding note, he said that the movie will go on floors in coming weeks and the cast and crew of the film will be officially announced by him.
