So, she asked me to wait for a year before she commits herself to Damayanti. Earlier, I had approached Anushka to play the role. She asked me to wait for a couple of years. However,I wanted to start the project immediately and thought it is worth a year’s wait if Radhika agrees. After I narrated the script, she put her other projects on hold and started shooting for this,” the director-producer of the film Navarasan told DT Next.

He said that Damayanthi is a horror film, which has depth in its story. “The film will be on a similar scale to Baagamathie and Arundathi. The story travels between 18th century and the present day scenario. Hence, I decided to do it across five languages as the subject will cater to pan Indian audience. We erected a grand set in Bengaluru to shoot the 18th century portions and the story takes place in a palatial bungalow. The movie was made at a budget on Rs 15 crore and was shot in Kerala and Mysuru,” he added. Talking about the release plans, Navarasan said that the film will hit the screens in October and release in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi.
