Vikram to play lead role in Kamal’s Marudhanayagam

Actor-filmmaker Kamal Haasan at a recent event was quizzed about his dream project Marudhanayagam that has been in the cans for the last 22 years. He replied that the film is still on, but he would revive the project with another actor in the lead role. When contacted a source, told us that Vikram had been approached by Kamal to play the title role. The source said, “Kamal sir pitched the idea to Vikram when they were making Kadaaram Kondaan. Vikram, who has Ajay Gnanamuthu’s film followed by Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan agreed to start his prep for the project in the second half of 2020. The film will go on floors in 2021.” Earlier in an interview with DT Next, Kamal Haasan said that he would play the lead in Marudhanayagam but it would be a web series instead of a film. It looks like he has stuck to his original plan. Sources added that the film’s budget that was Rs 85 crore in 1997, could be pegged at a whopping Rs 700 crore now. We will have to wait for an official word from Kamal Haasan himself on this.
