She had asked me to meet Murugadoss for an audition and he gave me a scene from the film and enact it. He was convinced and I was roped in for a role that will have its prominence in a star-studded film,” she begins.

Shamata recalls her first day of shoot, and says with a smile, “I was standing in between Rajini sir and Yogi Babu. I was nervous if I could pull of the dialogue. It was Rajini sir, who calmed me down and made me comfortable. From then on, it was pretty easy.” The actress tells us that she was floored by Thalaivar’s humility. “Many people have told me about his humility despite the stardom. It was only when I saw him in person, I realised that he was one of the most down-to-earth-person that I have ever met and I look up to him for that apart from his performance,” says Shamata. Though she remains tight-lipped about her role in Darbar, she says that it will be impactful. “In a male-dominated industry, we hardly come across a well-written role for women. I cannot divulge much about it, but youngsters will be inspired by my character like they did in Everest. I shot for 40 days across Mumbai schedules. More than 95 per cent of Darbar was filmed in Mumbai.”

Delivering Tamil dialogues on the sets wasn’t a huge challenge for Shamata. “Most of my dialogues are in Hindi. I have Tamil lines as well in the film for which Murugadoss sir and Rajini sir helped me. It was a great learning experience,” she reveals. Despite winning critical acclaims for her roles, she says that she is not in a rush to sign films. “It is not about signing a dozen films in a year. I believe that even if I do one film, my role should create an impact. I am looking forward to working in such good scripts in Hindi as well as from the south,” she concludes.
