Writer accuses MGR Magan makers of plagiarism

The latest is that the film has courted a controversy after a short story writer named Kanna on Tuesday claimed that the script is an extension of his idea he had discussed with Ponram’s associate in 2017.

He told DTNext, “He had approached me to develop the script of MGR Magan a couple of years ago. That is when I told him about my short story that revolved around an MGR loyalist, who seeks the leader’s monetary help for an emergency and how is son-in-law grows to become a hopeless young man. I suggested to the associate that it would be better to cast Sivakarthikeyan or Sasikumar for the lead and Raj Kiran or Sathyaraj to play the uncle’s character.”

Kanna said that MGR Magan also deals with a similar storyline and the makers have added quite a few elements on their own. “Even if you take away the similarities of both our stories, how could the cast be the same? I asked the associate, who told me that he had left Ponram even before MGR Magan shoot commenced. One of the media houses has published this short story of mine with the byline and I will fight for my claim,” he added. The film that is slated for a Pongal release also has Mirnalini Ravi and Samuthirakani in important roles.
