Yuvan releases a music video that features transwoman

The composer through his music label U1 records after the release of Thuli Thee has now released Dr Shani Hafees’s Marupiranthaal, a music video that talks about a transgender woman and her foster girl child. The video features popular transwoman make-up artist and social activist Renju Rejimar along with Rose Sherin Ansari.

Talking about the video which Shani has co directed with Adarsh N Krishna, she told DT Next, “The theme of Marupiranthaal revolves around women empowerment across various sections of society.Though the theme isn’t new, it is still relevant and has struck a chord with the viewers.” The song has Shani’s daughter Reyah as co-singer, which netizens have lauded. “I have always had a desire to record a song with my daughter. We discussed this and when I realised that Reyah is all set to record, we took off with Marupiranthaal. I’m a doctor by profession and a musician by passion. In the recording studio, Reyah hit the right notes in the very first take. She was at ease throughout. In fact, that was her first studio experience and she enjoyed it. She also had a ‘special mention’ for her voice in the Thai Film Festival for the number. Being a mother, I couldn’t have asked for more.

According to Shani, collaborating with Yuvan Shankar Raja has helped her song to reach a mass audience. “The numbers will only increase in the coming days and we are glad that Yuvan launched it as well through his social media handles,” she added. Marupiranthaal has music composed by Yeldho John and has lyrics by Ruxeena Musthafa.Shani has already started working on her documentary and an official update will be made soon.
