Ilaiyaraaja made his debut in Kollywood as a composer with hit film, Annakili, that released in 1976. Post that, for over 40 years, the legendary composer has been composing at Prasad Studios, Vadapalani, where most of his popular numbers have been birthed.
Trouble began when the current management of the Studios headed by Sai Prasad, grandson of late L V Prasad forced Ilaiyaraaja to vacate the studios and hand over the place to them. Raaja’s long-time colleagues in the industry including veteran director Bharathiraaja held a protest outside the studios and demanded explanation from the management, but in vein.
The latest is that, for the very first time in nearly five decades, Ilaiyaraaja has composed songs for his upcoming film, Thamizharasan, at his residence. The composer apparently managed to bring hpme all his instruments and technicians a couple of weeks ago and completed the recording on time.
A source from the film’s unit told DT Next, “He has recorded the entire background music of the film at his home and completed the projecton time.
“However, even an iota of quality hasn’t been compromised and it has come out really well.” Reports also suggest that, from now. Raaja will compose music only from his home and not in Prasad Studios. Directed by Babu Yogeswaran, Thamizharasan features Vijay Antony and Ramya Nambeesan in lead roles. The film is touted to be an emotionalfamily drama with all commercial elements.
