Last year, there were reports that a top production house is planning to remake Rajinikanth’s 1981 blockbuster film, Netrikann, in Tamil again and talks were on with A-list stars in the industry. However, the project didn’t shape up and the makers had to drop the idea. Now, it looks like, actor Dhanush is quite keen remaking the cult-classic film and he has already begun working on the pre-production.

A source in the know of things says,”Netrikann is Dhanush’s favourite film and he always had this idea of remaking it in Tamil again. He will begin working on the project post completing the shoot of Mari Selvaraj’s project. An official announcement will be made in a month.” It is worth noting that Dhanush had previously remade Rajinikanth’s film titled Maapillai in the year 2011. Interestingly, we also hear that the team has approached Keerthy Suresh to reprise the character played by her mother Menaka Suresh in the original.

Netrikann was directed by SP Muthuraman and produced by K Balachander under his home banner Kavithalaya Productions. The film was a huge hit and Rajini was seen playing dual roles that of a father and son.
