Touted as a comedy science-fiction thriller starring Sunainaa and Yogi Babu, the movie was scheduled to release in the third week of April, according to the director Dennis Manjunath. “However, this lockdown has forced us to postpone it,” said Dennis to DT Next. “We hope to announce the release date once theatres open. We plan to hit the screens as soon as normalcy returns,” he added.
The director points out that his film has elements of science-fiction. “It’s a story of a group of friends who come across cannibals in a forest who came into existence accidentally due to a DNA infection in a plant. Trip isn’t a serious film entirely as there are loads of humour and fun,” shared the director. Dennis narrates how the film came about. “I got in touch with Yogi Babu sir while working for the movie 100. Yogi sir had asked me if we could start a new project. Previously, I had planned to do a gangster film but then decided to explore the concept of cannibalism,” he reminisced.
Dennis says that there are several dark thrillers on cannibalism in Hollywood. “But in Indian cinema, not many have explored this. Hence, I think Trip can even be labelled as one of the first Indian cannibal movies,” Dennis said.
