The makers of Superstar Rajinikanth’s Annaatthe, Sun Pictures recently announced that the film would release for Pongal next year. Earlier, the Siruthai Siva directorial was scheduled to hit the screens in October this year. However, the delay in shoot due to the coronavirus pandemic forced the team to push the release further by three months.
“With 50 per cent of the film left to be shot, the makers are looking to resume shooting immediately post lockdown and get the film ready for Pongal.” However, the makers of Ajith’s Valimai were the first to lock the Pongal weekend for the film’s release. As the Annaatthe team announced the release date, there were doubts over Valimai’s release on the same date. A source from Boney Kapoor’s Valimai’s production unit Bayview Projects LLP told DT Next, “Valimai shoot will begin immediately when the government lifts the lockdown. Moreover, director Vinoth is known for finishing his projects rapidly. So by no means, Valimai will be postponed and is on track for a Pongal release.”
Ajith and Rajini last clashed at the box office for Pongal 2019 with Viswasam and Petta, respectively. Both the films collected Rs 200 crore and set the cash registers ringing at the box office.
