Kaga, an assistant to KV Anand told DT Next, “I was the scriptwriter for Superstar Rajinikanth’s Man Vs Wild episode with Bear Grylls. One day during the lockdown, I received a call from B Vijayakumari, Joint Commissioner of Police (West Zone), who asked if I could create an awareness on the challenges faced by police in these testing times. I discussed my ideas with them and added a few elements that would enhance the viewing experience for netizens. I am glad that it has opened to an overwhelming response.”

The short film features real-life police officials and no artistes. “Having worked with leading artistes like Mohanlal, Suriya and Vijay Sethupathi in Kaapaan and Kavan, respectively, directing cops was a little different and came with its own challenges. They ensured that we didn’t involve anyone outside the department for safety reasons,” he added. The film was shot in a couple of days and was completed in five days. “We made this at a zero budget with Ghibran composing the music and Prasanna handling the cuts. While shooting Innuyir Kaaka, we saw the difficulties that cops go through. They lack basic amenities like shelter and water despite working round the clock. More than a film, I see this as a tribute to them,” he concluded.
