The makers too had officially announced that the film would release during the Pongal weekend next year. Now, reliable sources have said that Annaatthe will get postponed to the summer of next year. “If the shoot resumes later this year, the film might release for the Tamil New Year weekend in April. Over 50 per cent of the film’s production has to be completed. We will have to wait for the makers to confirm.”

Directed by Siruthai Siva, Annaatthe is Rajini’s 168th film. “He had plans to begin his 169th film immediately after completing Annaatthe. Now, it is doubtful if his 169th film, produced by Kamal Haasan, would take off. Rajinikanth has already said that he wouldn’t participate in shootings unless the coronavirus is completely eliminated,” the source added. The film went on floors in December last year and major portions of it were shot at Ramoji Rao Film City, Hyderabad. Keerthy Suresh is rumoured to play the role of Rajinikanth’s daughter in the film.
