“It will be a pay-per-view app that will have pre-loaded Tamil movies even from MGR and Sivaji Ganesan days. There will be new films as well which will be premiered on the platform. We have been working on the digital rights of some classic films currently,” he told DT Next. The films will be priced at various slabs in Regal Talkies OTT.
“Short films will be priced at Rs 20 and a 60-minute film will be priced at just Rs 25. Even the old films will be priced at Rs 25. However, the rates for our new releases/premieres are priced astonishingly at a rate of Rs 50 to Rs 100. This way it is convenient to watch a film at a low-cost price sitting at home and they do not have to subscribe to it on package basis,” he revealed.
Kumar added that the culture of cinema will go on and won’t diminish post COVID. “There will be more and more films that will be made for its pure theatrical experience. Bigger stars will do films like Baahubali and smaller films will thrive on the OTT platform. It is a pure win-win situation,” he said. Kumar is stuck in his hometown Madurai currently and has been penning a few scripts. “I have written several lines. I need to be back in Chennai soon because I need to sort out my production ventures before I begin my next directorial. Even if shoots resume, it will take a while for cinema to be back on track,” he concluded.
