Having known for working with leading actors like Ajith and Vikram and for delivering blockbusters, VZ Durai says that his upcoming film Naarkali will be another feather in his cap. “It will be a package. It has action, crime, politics, revenge, and comedy. Like my other films, the storyline has an emotional connect too that will resonate with the audience. You could call it a political satire too,” he begins. Director Ameer plays the lead role in the film. “Ameer and I have been good friends since I started my career. He is as good an actor as much as he is a director. You will see Ameer in a different dimension in Naarkali. His comedy track with Imaan annachi will be spoken about and their combination reminded me of Sathyaraj and Goundamani. It was a laugh riot on the sets,” he tells us. Talking about roping in directors like Ameer and Sundar C to play the lead role in his films, Durai says, “They both are brilliant actors and their films stand solid proof it. Sundar C and I recently collaborated for Iruttu, a hit film, and immediately planned a sequel. Things didn’t fall in place, so we will work together again in Thalai Nagaram 2. Ameer and Sundar C are very co-operative. Similarly, it is the mutual trust that drives us in delivering good content. Back then Ajith, Vikram and Simbu agreed to work with me after delivering blockbusters like Vaali, Dhool and Manmadhan, respectively.” Durai laughs when he is prodded about the idea of donning the greasepaint. “There are enough and more actors in Tamil. People need some breathing space and I am still learning the nuances of doing good films. I’m happy being behind the monitor,” he chuckles.
Coming back to Naarkali, Durai says that a few more days of shoot is left. “We simultaneously edited the film and Vidyasagar is composing the music. We will resume the shoot in Chennai once lockdown is lifted,” he concludes.
